Kalman Apple

is an Oscar nominated, Award winning Director, Writer, and Producer.

His professional career stems from an Ad agency background as a Group Creative Director in NYC. He branched out from traditional package goods and service agencies to work in Fashion advertising on brands Max Mara, Club Monaco, and The Limited; working with world-renowned photographers Richard Avedon, Walter Chin, Patrick Demarchelier, and Raymond Meier. While working concurrently as a creative on the agency side Kalman also directed over a hundred commercials for national brand and regional clients. He has won awards for his advertising work, most notable a Clio, and a One Show. For his narrative film directing, the Academy Award® Nomination came in 2002 for his film “Speed for Thespians” an adaptation of a Chekhov one-act play “The Bear.”

In 2003 Kalman and his producing partner sold their pitch and developed an animated feature film for Walt Disney Pictures.  In 2008 Kalman and his producing partner opened The Home Office LLC with it’s first retail venture, the out of home entertainment complex; Powersurge.

In 2012, He directed “Bad Wolf”, the 1st place winner in the Producers guild weekend film challenge. In 2013, He was a Grand-prize winner of the Canon/Ron Howard presents: project imagination film contest for his film: “A day in the Country.”

As an active member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Kalman has been on the pre-selection committees and the executive committee of his branch for over 10 years. From this experience, Kalman has also consulted in short film acquisitions for Shorts HD, the international short film broadcast channel. His experience in the short film genre has allowed him to cultivate many relationships in the festival circuit and with recognizable actors and filmmakers within the Television, short film and feature film industry. As a screenwriter Kalman is developing several projects working with his producing partner Shameela Bakhsh with an eye towards telling rich authentic stories that promote diversity and inclusion both in their content and their production. Currently Kalman is working with up and coming acting talents in building their careers by writing and directing films specifically for those actors.
